We want everyone to get to know the fabulous Temple Jeremiah staff even better. With this goal in mind, we have created #TakeoverTuesday where a staff person will take over the temple’s Facebook page every Tuesday! They’ll post about what they’ve been up to, what they do at Temple Jeremiah, and give you a little glimpse into their lives.

This week we get to know
Katie Bick, Communications Coordinator, even better.

“Hello everyone! I’m Katie, Temple Jeremiah’s Communications Coordinator, and I’m thrilled to be posting on the temple’s page for #TakeoverTuesday!

I started working with Temple Jeremiah in February. You may have seen me taking pictures at events or working at my desk near reception. Although I mostly help out behind the scenes, I’m excited to share more about myself with all of you today!”

“One of the things I enjoy most about working with Temple Jeremiah is getting to participate in the temple’s social justice programs. I’m continually impressed by the congregation’s commitment to social advocacy and tikkun olam.

At the moment, I’m particularly excited about the TJ Postcard Collective, a program devoted to registering new voters via mail in the months leading up to the 2020 presidential election. To learn more about the TJ Postcard Collective, click here!”

“Since the beginning of physical distancing, I’ve been spending a lot of time with a new colleague: my cat Alma!

My roommate and I adopted Alma from Hyde Park Cats two years ago, and ever since then we’ve been madly in love with her.

She’s a mackerel tabby, and her hobbies include sleeping, chasing flies, and interrupting Zoom calls.”

“In my free time, I volunteer with RHINO Poetry, an outstanding poetry journal based in Evanston.

As a huge poetry nerd and longtime fan of the journal, volunteering with RHINO has been a dream come true! To offer everyone a taste of RHINO, I thought I’d share one of my favorite poems from RHINO’s 2020 issue: “Habeas Corpus” by Kabel Mishka Ligot. Check it out here!”

“Although I’m not much of a cook, the new world of Covid-19 has forced me to get more comfortable in the kitchen.

Recently, my roommate and I made pickles, which turned out well. Hopefully, when life returns to normal, I’ll be able to share some treats with all of you at the temple!”

Tune in to our Facebook page next Tuesday to meet Temple Jeremiah’s next staff #TakeoverTuesday!
