This week’s Elul craft project is making Memory Plates. These plates can be used and washed or just hung on the wall for art.
Supplies Needed:
- Sharpie Markers
- Pencil
- Graphite Transfer Paper
- White Plate (must be oven safe)
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Cotton Ball
Instructions:
First, clean the plate with rubbing alcohol, you want to make sure all the oil is off the plate. Wash your hands too, to take off any oils on your hands that might get on the plate while you draw on it.
Once the plate is completely dry, trace the pattern you want to make on your plate with a pencil and graphite transfer paper or just draw free hand. Anything your child draws on the plate will be fun, ideas include a Star of David, Shabbat set, your family, or any special memory.
For the final image you need to use Sharpie markers, any other markers will not “stick” even if you cure the plate in the oven.
Once you have drawn your images or artwork onto your plate, you will need to set or “cure” it in the oven. Place the plate in the oven at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.
The colors will change a little during the baking process but this will set them so they won’t wash off. Plates will be dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended.
