Want to speak out to end gun violence?  Here is something you can do TODAY! This is time sensitive so do this within the next few days.

Here is a simple action plan – it only takes a handful of clicks:

Ø  Look up people running for federal house and senate seats, governor and state legislature where you live ballot lookup

Ø  If a candidate for US Senate or US House is an incumbent, check to see if they are co-sponsors of stalled assault ban legislation.

o   S. 736  Assault Weapons Ban

o   H.R.1808 House Assault Ban – this bill may be brought to the floor for a vote the last week of July, so acting now is critical.

  1. If your representative is listed as a co-sponsor, please mail them a small check and thank you note (you can do it electronically, but given the volume of electronic communication, the message may be missed), or just call and say “thanks.”
  2. If an incumbent Senate/House candidate is not listed as a co-sponsor, email, call, or write a letter asking them to sign on as a co-sponsor (again, letters and calls get more attention than emails).

o   If they reply “yes,” please email afbjuly4@comcast.net and we will track the bill to see if they add their name as co-sponsor.

  1. If you contact candidates who are not incumbents, please forward their written communication to you that they will (or will not) support the ban and we will track candidates state-by-state.

ILLINOIS RESIDENTS

o   If you live in Illinois and your State Senator and/or State Representative is an incumbent, check to see if they are co-sponsors on stalled assault ban legislation

o   Use this link to urge Illinois legislators to pass gun safety legislation during special session

If enough of us act now, and encourage our friends, family, and colleagues to act, then maybe our children and grandchildren won’t grow up in a world where it’s not safe to go to school, places of worship, grocery stores, malls, parades, or any crowded venue.
