Beloved Friends,

Temple Jeremiah, in partnership with the City of Chicago and the incoming Biden-Harris Administration, invites you to take part in the Brighter Together National COVID-19 Memorial Service, a virtual event to remember the lives lost to COVID-19.

What: National COVID-19 Memorial Service

When: Today, January 19 at 6:00 p.m.

Where: Participate remotely/virtually

At 6:00 p.m., join residents and businesses across the country in turning off your lights and electronics and stepping outside to your driveway or balcony, or outside of your workplace. Light a candle and observe a moment of silence for those who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

The City will be dark during this moment as we reflect on the pandemic and its impact on our city and country.

I will be outside Temple at the Happ Road entrance blowing the Shofar along with participating faith institutions and businesses who will ring bells or other instruments to commemorate this memorial service.

At 6:10 p.m., following ten minutes of reflection, please turn your lights back on, symbolizing moving from darkness to light. At this time, businesses, cultural centers, organizations, and individual homes across the city will turn on their lights effectively “lighting up” our communities.

Please also consider supporting this memorial by posting on social media using #brightertogether, tagging Temple Jeremiah, and sharing the memorial invitation with your friends, family, and network.

May those who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 be granted a full measure of comfort and healing.

Shalom,
