Temple Jeremiah

Costa Rica Teen Service Trip 2018

Ten Temple Jeremiah teens, along with Naomi Segal, our Youth and Family Engagement Director, are on their way to Costa Rica on a service and cultural immersion trip! This trip, planned because Temple Jeremiah wants to provide real world and hands-on experiences to volunteer in the world for our teenagers, has been in the works for over a year and we are so excited for the experience the group is about to have. It is also a meaningful opportunity for our teens to create a strong community with lifelong friendships. The trip will be centered around Jewish values, such as tzedek (justice) and kehila (community).

In Costa Rica, the teens are going to spend one night at Playa Hermosa working on team building and having fun at the beach. They will then spend the remainder of the week in their host village, Pozo Azul (which can be located on a map here). While in Pozo Azul they will volunteer in the village on a variety of projects, such as helping finish roads and sidewalks in the village, working with farmers, and painting a variety of buildings, in partnership with approximately 800 people. The teens will also cook all of their meals with the neighbors in the community, hike to nearby waterfalls, and play sports with the kids in the village. And we’re excited to spend a day ziplining in the Monteverde cloud forest preserve!

You can follow along on the blog here. Or sign up to receive notifications when a new blog post goes up. The teen participants will be updating the blog with photos and their experiences often! Plus view their itinerary and learn more about the trip.
