Join a Virtual Lounge with Temple Jeremiah!

Lo Tov L’Adam L’hiyot L’vado – It is not good for humans to be alone

While we are all practicing social distancing we also want to create opportunities for virtual connection. Temple Jeremiah is launching Virtual Lounges as opportunities for small groups of congregants to get together over Zoom. We are excited to “see” many of you and check in. We’ll share family activities that have worked well, recipes, stories, and just chat. We will have different Lounges based on interests. Want to have a virtual Wine Club? Connect with fellow preschool moms? Share your favorite walking trail? We can build a Virtual Lounge around all that and more! If you are interested in participating or co-hosting a Virtual Lounge please contact Dina. We’ll work around your schedule.

Parents of Kindergartners – Second Graders

Inviting all parents of Kindergartners through Second Graders, join Dina for a Virtual Lounge! We invited one of the most creative and super-star moms I know, Alisa Patterson! Alisa has raised three extraordinary kids, juggled all their activities while working, being PTO President, and volunteering at Temple Jeremiah (she is currently Sisterhood Co-Chair) along with numerous other commitments. Since the Stay at Home order began Alisa and her family have monthly theme events including a tea party, a Kentucky BBQ & Bourbon night, and a college graduation celebration – just to name a few. She is an extraordinary party planner who makes every situation fun! She will share some of her favorite activities from when her kids were young, fun projects that will make the quarantine days go by faster, and tips for making the most out of a celebration, or just a Thursday! If there is anything you want to make sure Alisa discusses please email your question ahead of time to Dina.

Helping Kids with Different Learning Needs

If your child has different learning needs the past couple of weeks might have been extra stressful. As we transition from e-learning to a summer without camps to the unknown in the fall, we can all use some tips and tricks. Join Dr. Chris Tullis, Associate Professor of Special Education and Educational Psychology, to learn some best practices for working with your kids during COVID.After Dr. Tullis’ presentation he will open the session up for questions.

Chris Tullis is an Associate Professor of Special Education and Educational Psychology, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D). He’s worked in special education and applied behavior analysis for 17 years, and his current focus is on teaching children with Autism Spectrum Disorder communication skills. He’s published some articles, gotten some grants, but that really doesn’t matter much to real people. What does matter is that he’s really passionate about helping you and your kids have more fulfilling relationships, smoother days full of learning, and generally helping kids become their best selves. Read more about Dr. Tullis here.

Wine & Bourbon Tasting with Randy Bauwens

Join us for a few virtual tastings! Randy Bauwens has 20 years of food and wine experience at private clubs and restaurants, but you don’t have to bring any wine or whiskey knowledge to attend!

Three sessions are currently being planned. First, a white wine tasting where we will compare and contrast a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay. Followed by a red wine tasting with Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. And then a Bourbon tasting!

All wines will be widely available and priced well. Randy will discuss the main differences in varietals, we’ll offer food pairing suggestions, and have fun delving into the unique flavors the wines are known for.

Dates & times coming soon! Let Dina know if you would like to participate!

Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Our Families

Please join Temple Jeremiah’s Mental Health Initiative and JCFS as we co-sponsor a chat for parents at home with their families during this quarantine.

This will be an opportunity to simply take a break and join other parents on Zoom to chat, catch up and maybe share stressors. During this time, a JCFS counselor will hop on for a few minutes and speak to how to stay sane ourselves during this time and language to use with a partner and/or kids (age 5+), when we need a break.

Because let’s be honest: we all will need one…or already do now.

Meditation with Judy Craven

Inviting everyone to join in for Temple Jeremiah’s Guided Meditation. No meditation experience necessary, all welcome!

Learn how to use meditation and mindfulness to manage the ups and downs of life with more equanimity by noticing and quieting the constant chatter of the mind. With meditation we train in a new habit of paying attention to this moment with presence and compassion. Judy will talk about meditation and mindfulness as well and lead short practices that can be done any time and anywhere to create balance and improve the quality of life.

This event will take place every other Tuesday on Zoom at 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.
Upcoming Dates: May 5th, May 19th, June 2nd

Revisiting High School Classics, with Ruth Adler

Our own Ruth Adler is excited to lead a Virtual Lounge book discussion where we will revisit classics from our high school days. After all, the wisdom in these books is wasted on the young! We will discuss each book for one week in two separate sessions. Rabbi Cohen will join us to explore the Jewish themes in each book.

Small Business Owners

In this lounge, you can join ongoing Zoom calls and long-term networking.

We invite all Small Business Owners to fill out this quick form to join, and to tell us more about your business and how we can help.

We promote all small business who fill out the form here.

Recipe Share & Cooking Tips

So many of us are cooking (and baking) now more than ever. Let’s share the recipes that have worked well for your family and chat about our kitchen accomplishments, or fails! We just had our first Virtual Lounge with a few Passover-friendly recipes and we can’t wait to have some more! Do you have a theme idea? Want to participate? Email Dina!

Teacher Connection & Assistance

During these challenging times you, teachers, have so much on your plates. Thank you for everything you do. We here at Temple Jeremiah want to know how we can help you, your classrooms, your students, or your school. We know some students relied on school lunches for meals, but we may not even be aware of other needs. Social Justice remains a pillar of our values and so we would love to help, if we can. Please fill out this super short form.

We heard from a teacher whose student’s families could use some assistance. You can see the details and donations requested here.

We also want to invite you to a special Teacher Virtual Lounge. Grab a glass of wine or warm tea, snuggle into your couch, and Zoom with other teachers. Commiserate about your challenges, share your successes, and just connect. Want to participate? Email Dina!

More coming soon

We are so excited to bring you more Virtual Lounges! Do you have an idea for a group or theme? Let’s make it happen! Email Dina.
