Learn more about the Torah
of Our Own Project, including the philosophy behind this once-in-a-lifetime spiritual
opportunity which was open to the entire congregation.
Over 800 congregants and their families attended our kick-off
for the Torah of Our Own (TOO) Project.
Rabbi Paul Cohen and his family scribed the very first letter in our new Torah during this ceremony. The event was highly energized and participatory. Attendees
had the opportunity
to:
- Learn more about the Torah of Our Own project.
- Meet our Sofer (Torah scribe), Rabbi Moshe Druin, and
learn about the ancient and fascinating art of writing
a Torah. Rabbi Druin spoke about what's involved in writing
a Torah and demonstrated different types of parchment.
Rabbi Paul Cohen and his family wrote a letter in the scroll
with Rabbi Druin.
- Dedicate a Torah portion and sign up to write a letter
in our new Torah.
- Enjoy crafts, dancing with a Klezmer group, participating
in art projects and playing word trivia with Rabbi C. Michelle
Greenberg, former Rabbi at Temple Jeremiah.
- Fulfill the 613th commandment to "write a Torah."
- Enjoy entertainment by members of the Junior Choir and
School of Jewish Rock under the direction of Music Specialist
Alan Goodis.
