Brotherhood Hosts Several Exciting Events

With a large number of brothers participating, Brotherhood held its Annual Shabbat Service on May 7. A dinner for the congregation preceded the services. Chaired by Joel Rovner, the event was, according to the participants, a major highlight of the year and highly inspirational.

A little more than a week later, on May 16, we hosted our annual hot dog lunch on the last day of Religious School. As always, the lunch featured freshly grilled, plump, juicy Kosher hot dogs, condiments, chips and drinks.

Last fall Brotherhood finished building and furnishing the College and Career Center at Waukegan High School. We're happy to report that the Center is now completely operational -- the first time the school has had such a facility. Pictures of students at the new center can be found at waukegan.php#college.

The 2009/10 year is coming to a close and, looking back, we think it's been another banner year. We've presented a large number of events and contributed to many charities - local, national and international. We presented programs with two leading personalities -a Chicago Sports update with local sportscaster Bruce Wolf and a book discussion with HBO star Jeff Garlin. We had an amazing Family Bowling Night and co-hosted with Sisterhood an Erev Purim Celebration, "Megillah, Margaritas & All That Jazz.”

In addition, for the second year in a row, we received a national award from the Men of Reform Judaism, the Allen Gardner Award for a Youth, Teen or College Program, in recognition of our work for the Waukegan High School College and Career Center.

Under the leadership of President Michael Pfeifer, we anticipate an equally successful year for 2010/11. We're currently working on the details for next year's programs, so keep an eye open for all the particulars by the end of the summer.

And, as always, we invite all Jeremiah men to come to our Opening Breakfast next fall.
